Whether you’re looking for a fun way to drive yourself to work or a healthy way to spend your evening, an electric unicycle can be exceptionally helpful. It can be used in various ways, even as a means of transportation.

Surprised? Well, don’t be. If you can ride a skateboard to your office, so why not a unicycle? It’s more or less similar in working. It’s healthy too as you get to breathe in nature in this ever so boring fast-paced life.

That being said, I’m the biggest advocate of such outdoor activities. I believe they’re essential to keeping your mind sane. I often ride myself to work using my electric unicycle, and I must say, I enjoy it.

If I can do it, you can do it as well. All you need to do is choose the right product, and you’ll never regret trying it out. Speaking of right products, here I’ve filtered some of the best electric unicycles for you. Have a look at them before deciding to purchase one:

Buyer’s Guide: Electric Unicycles

electric unicyles

A number of high-end brands are making electric unicycles these days. From KingSong and Segway to Gotway and Inmotion, there are many big names with wonderful products.

Each brand offers a different battery pack, weight limit, watt motor, wheel size, speed, and range. Just to let you know, the wheel size of a hoverboard can range from 12 to 16-inch, depending on the brand and model you choose.

Speaking of the primary concern, most people find it overwhelming to select the right product. It makes sense to me as there is a massive variety of electric unicycles available these days.

Here I’m going to highlight a few factors that would definitely help you narrow down the best electric unicycle. All you need to do is keep the points mentioned below in mind, and you’ll be good to go. It may sound complicated, but it’s a lot more simple than you can imagine.

Battery Pack

One of the most important things to consider when buying one-wheeled hoverboards, also known as electric unicycles, is their battery power. Let’s just say that the life of your unicycle entirely depends on its battery. It is something that keeps your unicycle going.

In case a battery is small or not too powerful, your unicycle wouldn’t cover much distance and may not work as efficiently as it should. I remember my first electric unicycle had a pretty weak battery; it only used to work well with its battery fully charged.

The battery of your unicycle can significantly affect its speed and mile range. Therefore, considering the battery of your hoverboard is of utmost importance. It’s one thing you cannot neglect if you genuinely want to enjoy the experience of riding an electric unicycle.

Oh, and did I tell you that the charging time of your battery matters as well? It must be 4 hours or less. Who would want to wait for more than 4 hours merely to charge a unicycle? Well, I certainly won’t. It can be frustrating, so it must be tackled beforehand.

Motor Power

If the battery is the heart of your unicycle, I’d say the motor is its soul. Another thing that can affect the speed and mile range of your unicycle is its motor.

If you wish to have an electric unicycle that delivers quality riding, you must ensure that it has great motor power. The more powerful the motor of your unicycle is, the better mileage and speed it can provide.

Also, your electric unicycle must bring along great off-road ability, and it’s only possible if it has a powerful motor. It’s as simple as that. A greater watt motor would effectively handle all kinds of rough terrain while providing you with a smooth riding experience.

Speed and Range

Okay. What’s the point of buying an electric unicycle if it doesn’t bring along an impressive speed and mile range? If you want to enjoy your riding experience to the fullest, please note that the speed and mile range of your unicycle plays a vital part in it.

Do you think your traditional bicycle is fast? If yes, I’d say you haven’t tried an electric unicycle. These electric unicycles are significantly faster than those conventional unicycles and bicycles.

Electric unicycles offer great top speed, climbing angle, and mile range, exactly what any adventure freak would want. Thus, when looking for the best electric unicycles, make sure to check its speed and mile range.

Nevertheless, the speed and mile range of a unicycle differs from brand to brand. A decent electric unicycle can go up to 15 miles on a single charge. Isn’t it enough? For one, I think it’s more than enough for a moderate-level rider, even a professional rider.

Weight-Bearing Capacity

What would you do with a unicycle that doesn’t bring along adequate weight capacity? I’m sure it’s going to be practically useless for you. Tell me if I’m wrong?

Checking out the weight capacity needs to be an essential consideration when purchasing an electric unicycle. Every rider is different from the other in terms of height and size. It’s primarily why their weight can never be the same.

In order to maintain the full functionality of an electric unicycle, please ensure to check its weight limit. I’ve tried a number of electric unicycles overtime, and not all of them can carry an individual weighing around 265 pounds.

Most of the electric unicycles come with a weight capacity of 200 pounds or less. The worst part of the story is that they often slow down in case the rider weighs around the maximum weight limit.

On the other hand, a few electric unicycles by high-end brands offer a weight capacity of 265 pounds. The best part being, they can even handle even if the rider weighs a little more than the maximum weight-bearing limit.

Value for Money

Do you have any idea how much an electric unicycle costs? To tell you the truth, they’re not inexpensive to begin with. You’ll have to spend a considerable amount of money if you’re looking to buy an electric unicycle.

So there’s an electric unicycle that you like, you think it’s cool, it has incredible features, but one thing you should ask yourself prior to the purchase is if it’s worth the amount of money you’re spending?

The quality and features of your electric unicycle must match its price tag. Please look at it and check out if it has excellent speed, perfect mile range, good construction, and quality.

Also, don’t forget about the durability. It’s another point that you cannot miss out on. Would you want to spend another $200 fixing your unicycle right after purchasing it for $500? Don’t panic; I’m just giving you an example that durability needs to be a priority.

In case you’re going for an expensive model, be sure to look out for some additional features like flashlights, headlights, and Bluetooth speakers. Such features can also add value to your unicycle in terms of its price. Not a hard and fast rule, eh?

FAQs

I remember when I bought my first electric unicycle, I had a ton of questions in my mind. To be honest, I was pretty confused about buying it. I used to ride a hoverboard back then, so switching to an electric unicycle was a complicated decision for me.

I’m not going to hang you to dry, so here I’ll answer a few frequently asked questions about electric unicycles for you. Why? So that you have a clear idea about what you’re getting yourself into.

One thing that I must clear you before starting the Q and A session is that most of the things you’ve heard about electric unicycles are nothing more than just myths. I know because I’ve been there, I’ve experienced it all.

How to Ride an Electric Unicycle?

Are you a beginner? Are you looking for ways to ride that unicycle a bit more easily? If yes, here I have a few basic things that will help you along the way.

For starters, place your left foot at the left pedal and bend your knee a little. Once you’re settled, repeat the same process with your right foot and knee.

You can stand right next to a wall and move back and forth slowly. It will provide you with a sense of stability that will eventually help in maintaining a balance.

Slowly start practicing on the acceleration and braking system while standing next to a nearby wall.

After gaining some confidence and stability, leave the wall, and start riding. Take it slow in the beginning and gradually increase the speed.

After this step, start practicing to get on and off the unicycle without assistance. Please choose a plain ground or smooth road for this.

When you know you’ve practiced a lot, start taking turns. If you wish to turn right, tilt your right foot in the right direction. In case you want to turn left, tilt your left foot slightly in the left direction.

If you want to slow down the speed, bend your knees a little. Oh, and don’t forget the basic rule that states to leave your body loose. Staying stiff can be problematic for you when riding a unicycle.

If you’re scared of giving it a try, please get yourself the required protective gear. You can purchase knee pads, a helmet, and some padded clothes.

Which is the Best Electric Unicycle?

It’s one question that I cannot answer appropriately. There are several electric unicycles that are great in terms of quality and features. It all comes down to what you like and dislike.

I’ve tried many one-wheeled unicycles in all these years, and of course, not all of them were the best. Still, I’d say trying all of them was a fabulous experience. I’m currently using the King Song electric unicycle.

It’s fabulously designed and comes with topnotch features. It can stand all kinds of terrains without really shaking, and whether it’s grass, stand, or slope, my electric unicycle remains stable.

Apart from that, I’ve also used GYPPG Electric Unicycle for almost ten months. It was also a smooth riding experience. Still, I won’t say you shouldn’t explore your options.

There’s a huge variety of electric unicycles available these days. You can check them out and choose the one that you like the most.

How is an Electric Unicycle Different Than a Hoverboard?

As I told you earlier, your electric unicycle won’t be similar to hoverboards. When riding a unicycle, the wheel would be between your feet, although the working mechanism would be somewhat similar.

Both the electric unicycles and hoverboards share the same principles of the braking system, direction change, as well as acceleration and deceleration. However, the process of steering varies significantly as you steer with your body, particularly legs.

In case you need a more rider active product, an electric unicycle is what you should stick with. All you need to do is stand in a balanced position and ride. If you wish to change the direction, tilt a little, and your unicycle will follow. If that’s not simple, I don’t know what is.

Are Electric Unicycles Safe?

Now, this is one question that pretty much everyone asks me, are electric unicycles safe? If you want me to answer it in one word, I’d say yes. Electric unicycles are absolutely safe.

One of the primary concerns when buying an electric unicycle is whether it comes with a safe battery. I’m sure you know lithium-ion batteries can be unsafe at times as there’s always a risk of explosion or catching fire.

Still, you don’t have to worry about it. Electric unicycles these days come with a UL certification logo, especially the ones available on Amazon. They’re all certified by UL 2272 ratings. It means they’re undergone various safety tests; henceforth, they are safe to give a shot.

They also have electric wiring protection, so the chance of catching fire, short circuits, or explosions is minimal to zero. Thus, I want you to know that electric unicycles nowadays are absolutely safe and there’s nothing to worry about.

Are Electric Unicycles Waterproof?

Do you wish to ride your electric unicycle while it rains outside? Well, you can try, but there’s only so much that your unicycle would be able to take.

Most of the electric unicycles these days are water-resistant. What you need to understand here is that they’re water-resistant, not entirely waterproof. Therefore, they won’t be able to handle heavy amounts of water.

If it's moderately raining, I believe it would be okay to ride outside, but the water can damage the battery of your unicycle in case of heavy rain.

Besides that, it’s something unsafe for you. Roads are usually quite slippery when it’s raining; you can clearly lose control and harm yourself. It’s mainly the reason why I don’t recommend riding a unicycle in the rain or immediately after it.

Still, if you love such challenges, you can enjoy a unicycle ride in mild to moderate rain. Just make sure to ride on a smooth surface to be on the safe side. Remember that there’s nothing above your health and safety, so it must be your top priority.

Is a Bigger Wheel Unicycle Easier to Ride?

Lastly, a lot of people think that a unicycle with bigger wheels is more comfortable to ride. I’d say it’s mostly just a myth as everything comes down to your hands-on practice at the end of the day.

You may find it difficult to balance yourself on a unicycle in the beginning. Two-wheel self-balancing scooters are relatively easy to ride as they often bring along a self-balancing system. However, riding a unicycle requires proper body coordination and lots of practice.

Apart from that, you must learn how to balance yourself effectively. Once you know the art of balancing yourself, you won’t get to face any more problems. You have my word. It’s something that you’ll cherish for life.

The Takeaway

As I mentioned earlier, I’m an absolute adrenaline junkie. If you want me to be precise, I’d say my entire life is about adventures. I love trying different things, and I certainly enjoy new experiences.

I’ve tried pretty much everything, hoverboards, skateboards, electric bikes, but I must say nothing was as fun as riding a unicycle. I don’t usually recommend people trying things, but I’d say you must try riding a unicycle. I’m confident you’re going to fall in love with it.

In case you weren’t familiar with unicycles, I’m sure you would be now. My guide is a perfect thing for anyone that wants to experience riding a unicycle. Do consider the options I’ve shared with you; I know you’ll thank me later. Have a wonderful day, my pals!
